SMOKINCAT — FROM MEME TO MISSION
SMOKINCAT began as a spontaneous crypto experiment — a meme coin with no roadmap, no team, and zero expectations. Just a spark of curiosity from artist and mental health advocate Marc Craig, who launched the project as a bold, chaotic leap into Web3. A doxed dev with a cat, a magic smoking pen, and nothing to lose.
But something unexpected happened.
The meme found meaning.
Over time, SMOKINCAT evolved from playful prank to purpose-driven platform — a fusion of street art, lived mental health experience, and community-powered crypto. What started in chaos matured into a mission: to turn memecoins into mechanisms for real-world healing, visibility, and creative empowerment.
And it’s deeply personal. Marc isn’t just painting walls — he’s living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and using art as his voice. As artist-in-residence at Leake Street, the legendary graffiti tunnel beneath London’s Waterloo Station, he’s transforming his lived experience into a creative ecosystem where mental health meets street culture — and now, decentralised value.
CHAPTER 1: HANDS TO WALL
This is where the mission hits the streets — literally.
Chapter 1 is a 12-part mural series that brings together real stories, raw emotion, and public art, all fueled by crypto and community. Here’s how it works:
1. 12 Real Interviews
Marc sits down with 12 individuals, each living with a different mental health condition — from PTSD to OCD, bipolar to anorexia. No scripts, no filters — just honest conversations.
2. Handprint Portraits
Instead of painting their faces, Marc creates digital portraits using the subject’s hand — a personal symbol of identity, like ancient cave paintings. It’s their mark. Their truth.
3. Community-Funded Mural Creation
Each mural is powered by the VOID WALLET.
Marc seeds it with £100 worth of SMCT. When the wallet grows to £600, the £500 difference is distributed equally between 5 artists who live with the condition being highlighted — including the portrait subject. Each artist also features in a digital group exhibition on smokincat.io, giving them visibility and a platform to share their stories.
4. Funding the Wall Through Art Prints
To fund the mural itself, 20 limited edition prints of the digital artwork are sold at £25 each.
5. Public Exposure With a Purpose
As it is being painted the mural becomes a beacon of conversation. Street art meets mental health advocacy — on full display in one of the world’s most iconic graffiti tunnels. It’s not hidden in a gallery. It’s loud, proud, and public.
6. 12 Murals, 1 Exhibition, 100% Impact
After all 12 murals are complete, they’ll be brought together in a final public exhibition.
100% of net proceeds from this show will be donated to a mental health charity — closing the loop and turning creativity into contribution.
7. Chapter 2 Begins…
Once Chapter 1 ends, a new one begins. New stories, new subjects, new murals — but the same soul:
Art with purpose. Value with heart.
JOIN THE CHAOS (FOR A CAUSE)
SMOKINCAT may have started as a meme, but it’s now a movement — a creative rebellion that turns internet culture into real-world action.
We’re not a company. We’re not a traditional charity. We’re a community of artists, misfits, storytellers, and dreamers, using a coin and a cat to challenge stigma, spark conversations, and support real people through real art.
If you’re here, you’re in.
So grab a metaphorical spray can — or a real one if you’re near Leake Street — and help us paint something bigger than ourselves. Whether you’re buying a print, minting some SMCT, or just sharing your story — you’re part of the creative event.
By buying ME, MY SHADOW AND THE VOID you will be directly funding the mural inspired by the original digital artwork. This mural aims to open positive, constructive and educational conversation of BPD.
